And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.

You cannot come in your own right or strength, our efforts will never be enough. So forgetting yourself and relying on Jesus is the key to true relationship with God.
He is the only level of goodness God will except, which is perfection. And so through His selfless death we get, by faith, accepted into God's family. All that from His dear love that He has extravagantly displayed to us. So we should see each fellow Christian as someone to share this overflowing with, and a drive to see others come into the family.
